How would a world economic collapse affect the ’08 race?
Hard to say, since none of the candidates–or any of their minions–either D or R can even conceive of the possibility right now.
What would you do?
What effect would an alien invasion have? I think a global economic collapse is such an unlikelihood, it’s not worth speculating about the impacts.
A global economic slowdown, however, is well within possibility, if not probability. After 4-5 years of solid growth and corporate profit-taking, the business cycle is definitely heading in that direction. And this typically damages the party in power. The question is, with a Democratic congress and a badly unpopular, ineffectual Republican president, *who* is the party in power?
In the end, voters will pick the person they find more charismatic and authentic.
